TRASHED LABELS
LABEL ART from A to Z

THANKS

Hi, well it's been a long slog and we'd like to start by thanking Ephteeay and Semi Decent for their early help and thoughts on the web site & Freddy C for one or two bits and pieces early on. As always we'd particularly like to thank Charlie Reggae who sadly passed away last year for his help and inspiration over time. Mike would like to thank Ian Causer for his patience and his ability to pick stuff up really quick with brilliant suggestions and ideas.

Just shortly after the site went live three people must have leapt up and run straight to the scanner, sending us labels to put up, they were Skunkride, Tommi Tikkanen & Russ Disciple. We ran around like madmen to get their additions up quickly. Only days later Jon Jones of Roots Garden, in Brighton England, sent a a lovely scan in from his posse too. Then up popped Mike, Ian's record dealer and gave Ian some stuff to scan and Poppadave, who sent some stuff all the way from Greece. Jamaicanlabelart.com goes international... it's looking good and we're all over the Net now!

It's Got to be said, what with Russ D's help in particular, just recently the site has started to look the Dogs'! We're getting mentions on Art and Design Blogs and Message boards, which is a real joy.

Not satisfied with what he already sent in, Barak aka Skunkride from Israel has now sent us more of his labels to add to the site. We're also very grateful to Rob Chapman from http://www.downbeat-special.co.uk who has allowed us to use the many rare Studio 1 labels he already displays on his
site, to enable us to build up a great selection from Jamaica's No.1 record label. Manwel Tabone from http://shaka.reggaeclub.org/ then came up trumps with a few choice labels from his own collection, including another one for the 'Z' section, (never an easy section to fill). And as we were just about keeping up with the submissions, Gordon aka DJ GreedyG from Northumberland (http://djgreedyg.podomatic.com/ ) has completely overwhelmed us by sending in 3 cd's full of thousands of label scans from his own massive collection, (as well as 20 or so sleeves for the Ephemera section which were sent to him by Aaron aka Ras Dragon from Canada). At the time of writing, we've added the sleeves, and have so far added about 100 of the labels, but still many more to go! (soon come...)

Also, we'd both like to add at this point that this site has been up and running for a year now (June '07) and we've had so much great feedback and help from all around the world that it really has been amazing. We've even recently done our first web interview about it http://ephemera.typepad.com/ephemera/2007/05/hi_marty_i_spok.html So we'd like to thank everyone who has been here and enjoyed the site and also to everyone who has linked us up on their sites and blogs and recommended us on message boards etc. and of course to all the generous people mentioned on this page who have made this site come alive. Ta very much. Now forward march for the next 12 months....

Tim P from http://www.dancecrasher.com/ has kindly sent us a scan of the earliest Channel 1 label that I've added to the C section (C2). Tim also has a great podcast site that we highly recommend at http://dancecrasher.podomatic.com/ featuring many of the great rare tunes from his collection

Robert Schoenfeld owner of Nighthawk Records and co-author of the indispensable Roots Knotty Roots discography book and cd-rom, sadly and unexpectedly passed away earlier this year. Over the decades Robert had collected many rare and treasured reggae records and these are now being auctioned off on ebay and DJ Void who has the task of photographing the labels and taking sound samples for the auction has been in touch with us here and has sent us a huge folder of labels from Robert's collection for use on this site. I've uploaded about 100 so far and there are many great ones to enjoy. So have a browse around as there are additions on most sections.

Next up we must thank John from California once again, as he's sent us some more labels from his collection, including one he designed himself for Keith Poppin's KP label, aswell as several more for The Ark and Red Gold & Green sections.

Joe Lawrence from Surrey has sent in a scan of the Mad Doc label that we've added to page M13. Cheers Joe!

DJ Stryda from http://www.dubkasm.com/ in Bristol in the UK has just got in touch and sent us 2 records from his own Sufferah's Choice label for us to scan and add to the site which you can now see on the S32 page. So thanks a lot Stryda and I'd just like to say that this is a great new development for us here at Jamaican Label Art and we think that this is the way forward from now on, that all future contributers to the site should send us the actual vinyl record itself!! hehehe ;-)

Hey Ian, that's a great idea! - Where's my copy!!! - Mikey...
